I led my first sales team when I co-founded my first company in 2015. We scaled it up to $2Mn in ARR without venture capital and built a team of 100+ sales executives from scratch. And it took us three years to get it right. We faced numerous challenges at every stage, most of them being people problems and tool problems. The so-called "Sales CRM solutions" used to be very crappy back then, and the ones that were "close to good" affordable for a bootstrapped startup.

Nine years later, in May 2024, when I was helping my family friends set up a new real estate company, I was asked to build the sales team from scratch. And that started the search for the right tools to accelerate our sales efforts. Unfortunately, even though hundreds of CRM products were launched in these nine years, none of the tools could solve the problems I wanted to solve. I had to stitch together a bunch of tools to get a sub-optimal result. That took a lot of time and effort on my part and the sales head's part. By September, this setup was at least solving some problems, but I knew that it was a hacky solution and would never scale.
