I led my first sales team when I co-founded my first company in 2015. We scaled it up to $2Mn in ARR without venture capital and built a team of 100+ sales executives from scratch. And it took us three years to get it right. We faced numerous challenges at every stage, most of them being people problems and tool problems. The so-called "Sales CRM solutions" used to be very crappy back then, and the ones that were "close to good" affordable for a bootstrapped startup.

Nine years later, in May 2024, when I was helping my family friends set up a new real estate company, I was asked to build the sales team from scratch. And that started the search for the right tools to accelerate our sales efforts. Unfortunately, even though hundreds of CRM products were launched in these nine years, none of the tools could solve the problems I wanted to solve. I had to stitch together a bunch of tools to get a sub-optimal result. That took a lot of time and effort on my part and the sales head's part. By September, this setup was at least solving some problems, but I knew that it was a hacky solution and would never scale.

State of B2C sales today

That started a three-month journey of figuring out how these challenges are being solved in different organizations. Luckily, most of my close friends work in sales, and because of their years of experience and skill set, they are now working as business development managers (BDM) or sales directors in B2C companies. I refrained from talking to B2B companies because I wanted to solve the challenges of my first client- the real estate company.

In sales leadership, you are supposed to do everything a leader in any other department is expected to do regarding day-to-day management, with one exception— they still have their sales targets to meet!

    1. Preparing sales reports at weekly, monthly, and quarterly levels
    2. Pushing their teams to update the CRM tools, which most lazy sales associates avoid
    3. Figuring out the gaps in funnels and processes and solving them by stitching together other tools or extensions in their existing CRM.
    4. Figuring out what can be done more to make their sales team more efficient.
    5. Coordinate with marketing teams on lead targeting, quality, etc. (surprisingly, this doesn't happen in most organizations).
    6. Work on onboarding and pitch improvement of the new sales hires.
    7. Figuring out which leads to prioritize, how to get repeat revenues, upsell, etc.

There has to be a better solution

Since we were building outcome-first solutions at olognlabs.com, I started thinking about how CRM should work in an AI-first world. Most importantly, how can we build a tool that helps these sales leaders optimize their sales process and team and generate more revenue per sales executive?
The idea was not to build another CRM tool that solves the problem of integrating all the functionalities but to make a tool that delivers the outcome! It should generate more sales from the same team while assisting the BDMs in continuously optimizing or eliminating sales operations.

We have decided to pick the most critical battles faced by B2C sales teams and solve them using a fundamentally AI-first approach. It will do the data crunching, generate intelligence, and figure out more revenue potential from the same set of users and leads, irrespective of your sales. It will also do your grunt work, such as generating reports, figuring out anomalies in sales operations, and even forcing accountability in your sales team by pestering them. If you are a sales team head, it will help you sleep peacefully at night because every morning you log into it, you will see an improvement in your sales funnel, operations, and team's sales figures. And if you don't see an improvement, the least you will get is the action you are supposed to take to get that improvement through our built-in accountability system.
